Accreditation is a quality system created for medical services. In recent years, the quality and safety of patients in medical institutions have become one of the most important issues. On these issues, certain organizations have created assessment models. One such international medical accreditation organization is the Joint Commission International (JCI). The quality system of medical institutions is evaluated on the basis of the principles of the General Quality Management in accordance with the model developed by JCI, and is also oriented towards the development of the quality system of the relevant medical institution within the framework of this model.
In Turkey, 52 medical institutions both physically and technologically meet European standards. Many private hospitals, having proved the compliance of the services provided with medical quality standards, have been accredited by JCI with respect to the quality of patient care and management of the organization. Turkey has the second largest number of accredited medical institutions in the world.
